Hand made on the potters wheel from Red Earthenware clay with sgraffito slip decoration. The image is scratched through the upper layer of white clay revealing the red beneath. I am inspired by the work of mid century British painters including Alfred Wallis. I was thinking about travelling to New York when I made this bowl. The red island and trees are based on memories of looking at old maps of New York. There's a really lovely contrast between the red and the cobalt blue wash. The interior is a rich turquoise glaze. This pedestal bowl is 20 cm high and 13.5 cm diameter.
Travel to Manhattan Pedestal Bowl
I am inspired by the work of mid century British painters including Alfred Wallis although there is a hint of Peter Doig in this work. The image on this work is of a mountain scene drawn from imagination but inspired by visits to Ontario in Canada and to Cader Idris in Wales. This pedestal bowl is 19 cm high and 12.5 cm diameter.
