Tea Clipper and Storm Vessel

This Vessel is part of a series about Tea Clippers. My great great grandfather was a sailor on these ships and sadly his wife died in childbirth. My great grandmother was brought up in an orphanage for the children of sailors. I have a tobacco jar that he had made at sea, and was her most treasured posession.

These vessels are inspired by the form of this jar and by the story of my family. The gold lustre on thse vessels is a nod to the brass rings holding the wooden jar together. They are made from red earthenware clay with slip and oxide decoration and with a final lustre firing.

14.5 cm high by 11.5 cm base diameter All sizes are approximate.
