Bring along any images you might want to work from, although I will provide ideas and images to inspire you.
Wear suitable clothing- It can get messy. Please bring an apron or old shirt.
A range of workshops can be organised for your group. As well as the one day plate course, half day or two days workshops can be booked, and not just for plates. Send an enquiry to find out more about what's available.
Have you looked at hand crafted ceramics and thought how lovely it would be to be able to make your own? Now you can do just that with a one day course
In this workshop you will make a hand decorated platter using ceramic slips that I have mixed myself and using the moulds that I make my plates with. You will start by rolling out clay and making a test piece to experiment with ideas. Then you will select from a range of leather hard platters made in my own moulds and ready to be completed in a day.
Decide on your design and start to decorate the platter by painting it with the ceramic slips- a type of coloured liquid clay. Allow it to dry a little while you finalise your design and then it is onto the sgrafitto element- adding further decoration by scratching and drawing through the surface design. After this your plate will have to dry before it can be fired.
Included in the price is firing of the platter, application of the shiny glaze and postage to your address when the platter is complete. You also get your test piece fired and sent you. This should take about three weeks. I will do my absolute best to help you realise your designs and can suggest some easy designs and patterns for those who are less confident in drawing skills.
"Thank you Anne for the most enjoyable day, lovely small group in wonderful surroundings and I'm so excited to receive my platter which I tried to make in your style which I love. You are an inspiration, thank you for sharing all your knowledge with us. Really recommend your superb workshop" - Kim.
