This large vessel can be used as a vase or as a sculptural piece. It is handbuilt from red earthenware clay, creating a sensitive and tactile form with a rounded belly. The painted narrative continues around the vessel, making the piece tell a story from all angles. Shell forms at the rim add texture and a flared cupping form at the top.

The layering of slips, oxides and underglazes creates a depth to the surface, with the red clay glowing warmly through the scratched in sgraffito decoration, and from below the layers of slips and glazes.

This vessel is 37cm high by 20cm diameter. All sizes are approximate.
